AMAZING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OCSA a TOP 100 School in the United States!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Washington Post newspaper released their 2013 list of “America’s Most Challenging High Schools” on April 16. This list identifies the BEST schools in the United States based on a formula that takes into consideration Advance Placement tests and number of graduates. The Washington Post identified 1,900 schools for their “2013 America’s Most Challenging High Schools” list – this is out of approximately 22,000 schools. OCSA is listed at number 93!!! This is a wonderful recognition for: 1 – the dedication of our students to both their arts and academic work each and every day; 2 – the high quality learning opportunities all our teachers and staff provide each student; and 3 – the ongoing support and encouragement from our parents, our District Staff and School Board, and the entire school community.

OCSA - AGAIN a GOLD Medal School!

The U.S. News and World Report magazine has released their 2013 high school rankings. OCSA is ranked #228 in the United States and # 16 in Florida. This ranking takes into account: 1- how well students do on state-wide tests (are students performing better than statistically expected for the average student in the state); 2- the success of Hispanic, African-American students, and low-income students; 3- and the college-readiness performance using Advance Placement (AP) both participation and success rates. Gold Medal status is awarded to those schools ranked in the top 500 out of the approximately 21,000 schools in the United States. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR STUDENTS, STAFF, PARENTS, DISTRICT STAFF, AND OUR ENTIRE SCHOOL COMMUNITY!!!

Extraordinary News

OCSA Student Selected For National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America

Each summer, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute brings together 120 of the brightest young players from across the country to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). Following a comprehensive audition process and a two-week training residency with leading professional orchestra musicians, these remarkable teenagers embark on a tour to some of the great music capitals of the world and serve as dynamic musical ambassadors.

Jonathan Collazo, a student at The Osceola County School for the Arts, has been selected to perform with the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America on Timpani and Percussion. More than 10,000 students auditioned and only 120 were selected for this honor.

"Jonathan Collazo is an amazing performer," said Bill Henley, Director of Bands for the high school at The Osceola County School for the Arts. "He is highly motivated and extremely talented. He is also a wonderful inspiration to the other players at our school and gives freely of his time to help them improve."

During NYO-USA’s inaugural season in 2013, the ensemble will travel to Washington, DC, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and London for performances with famed maestro Valery Gergiev and renowned violinist Joshua Bell.

OCSA Ranked #4 Combination School in Florida

The Florida Department of Education released the ranking of Florida schools on January 30, 2012 and OCSA is ranked as the #4 combination school for high schools in the state of Florida. This ranking is based on FCAT scores and other measures used to determine the school grade (graduation rate, percentage of students taking high level courses and their success rate, and percentage of seniors determined to be ‘college ready’). Congratulations go to our outstanding staff for providing and guiding students through high quality learning opportunities, to our amazing students for their focus and efforts to succeed, and to our parents for their positive and strong support and encouragement!

*Parent/Teacher Concerns/Conferences*

During the school year parents and teachers may have concerns/questions to share with one another. Teachers may call or e-mail parents about a concern/question and we ask that they copy the school administration. Likewise, if parents have a concern/question please first contact the teacher.
The best way to do that is by e-mail (you may find all staff at our website) and I ask that you copy me (lisbycha@osceola.k12.fl.us) or Dr. Carroll (carrollm@osceola.k12.fl.us).

We ask teachers to respond within 24 hours to your contact. If you would like to schedule a Parent/Teacher conference, please call Mrs. Hill at 407-931-4803 or email her at hillsir@osceola.k12.fl.us.

Conferences are scheduled for the second half of our lunch time and we try to have all of your child’s teachers present.

REMEMBER to ALWAYS have your OCSA ID!!!! There are a number of school events where OCSA students must present their OCSA ID for admittance. Most of these events are on our campus, but a few may be off-campus. The best advice is that when attending any OCSA event each OCSA student should always have their OCSA ID in their possession. If an OCSA student arrives at an event without their ID and the ID is needed for admission the student may not be able to enter the event or normal school disciplinary actions may be invoked.
